L ast night I ordered a Domino’s pizza and now my mind is blown. My daughter wanted a small margherita (909 kcal) plus some wedges and the cost was £18.98 (I know — how? And that’s not even the mind-boggling bit). But if she ordered a “deal” of a large pizza (2,171 kcal) plus wedges, garlic bread and a litre of fizzy drink, guess the price? Bizarrely, £16.99. So £1.99 cheaper. I could stare at that for ever and still not understand.

We’ll leave aside that no one needs pizza and garlic bread unless they want a stroke and chronic wheaty bloating and face the other truth: companies with their bogofs and deals reward gluttony. But then I suppose occasional customers who want a moderate treat
