The public health department said that there are 22 new cases in the St. John's Health District (District 2), and the circuit breaker in the area will be released at 6 pm on Friday.

Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Jennifer Russell said that they are monitoring the situation but have no plans to keep the circuit breaker effective.

Russell said in a press release: “Many of today’s positive cases come from people who have previously obtained positive results through rapid tests and have self-quarantined while waiting for confirmation of PCR testing.”

"When those people are in isolation, the public health department can still easily remove the circuit breaker in the area."

The Moncton Health District (District 1) reported the second highest number of new cases on Thursday, at 21. Although the circuit breakers in most parts of the area will also be lifted on Friday night, it will continue for another 7 days at Riverview Moncton, and Dieppe.

Russell said the problem with Greater Moncton is that people are not properly isolating themselves or complying with circuit breaker restrictions.

She said: "It is vital that everyone abide by the rules and do not gather at home, because we have seen that due to the restrictions of the circuit breaker, people who shouldn't be at home spread the virus at home."

In addition, the circuit breaker will take effect on most of District 7 (Miramitch area) at 6 pm on Friday, with 16 new cases reported on Thursday.

Elsewhere in the province, there are 9 cases in the Fredericton area and 1 case each in the Edmonston and Bathurst areas.

There are 18 people in the hospital, 11 of whom are in intensive care. Fourteen people in the hospital were not vaccinated, one was partially vaccinated, and three were fully vaccinated.

According to public health, 86.3% of eligible New Brunswick people have now been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, and 93% have received the first dose of vaccine.

Bruce McFarlane said that these cases are included in the number in District 3 of the Fredericton Health District.

This area includes most of central and western New Brunswick and currently has 85 active COVID-19 cases.

Elsewhere in the province, Moncton Health District has 220 active cases, St. John's Health District has 117 cases, and Miramichi District has 116 cases.
