A new game could be coming

Fans of the American anime-style cartoon series Avatar: The Last Airbender could be getting a new game soon.

A listing on Amazon Japan has seemingly revealed an unannounced game titled 'Avatar: The Last Airbender - Quest for Balance'. It's apparently coming to the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 according to the website and has a release date of November.

Even if it is the real deal, the date is obviously subject to change. In addition to this, GameMill is listed as the publisher - the same company behind the release of Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl.

Avatar: The Last Airbender games have previously appeared on Nintendo platforms such as the Wii and DS. The show itself was wrapped up in 2008, and Netflix is currently working on a live-action series. Earlier this week a new mobile Avatar game was also announced.

This popular Nickelodeon series isn't the only game in the headlines this week. On Friday, THQ Nordic gave SpongeBob SquarePants fans a look at the upcoming title SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake. You can learn more in yesterday's post.

Could be cool. I love Avatar, but the previous games were alright at best.

i personally like Korra more but Last Airbender is still great

That would be interesting if it were true. I'm really liking the resurgence of high-budget licensed video games as of late.

With that kind of name, you'd think it'd be releasing for the Wii Balance Board

I've always meant to watch Avatar at some point because the clips I have seen of the show look great. Maybe this'll finally push me to watch it (in addition to a new movie coming out on Netflix if I'm not mistaken).

I'm a big fan of The Last Airbender, as well as its spin-off series.

I need a new Avatar Korra game.

if it's not like the ds games it'll fail the avatar ds games were the best

Awesome. Hope it's any good. I've been looking forward to more Avatar stuff especially since they set up Avatar Studios, it's a really good show that I would love to see more of and I really hope the video game will be good too.

Please give me an HD-2D Avatar RPG

Not that this would be good on Switch, but I would love an Avatar MMO

Oh hell yeah this will be awesome! see's GameMill is publishing it Well it might still be alright.

Yessss! There have been rumors for a while about an open-world Avatar RPG in the works, but even before then, I knew a new game was an inevitability after the show exploded in popularity on Netflix and prompted Nickelodeon to open Avatar Studios.

While I loved Nick All-Star Brawl and enjoyed Nickelodeon Kart Racers 2 quite a bit, I'm admittedly reluctant about Game Mill publishing this game. While they have some good games under their belt, they have many more mediocre ones, and even the good ones are often lacking in visual polish. Kart Racers 2, for example, looked like a PS2 game. Avatar deserves a triple-A budget, and I'm a little disappointed they didn't just get THQ to do it. So I'm a little worried about this project, but I hope it'll still be something special.

ATLA is my favorite television series of all-time, and it's helped shape how I think politically. It shows how the line between good and evil isn't always clear; there's a lot more nuance than just Side A are the bad people and Side B are the good people. Understanding this ambiguity and accepting that other people may think differently than us because of their subjective experiences is an important tool for navigating through life, but it's a skill that most people unfortunately don't have. Avatar addresses this beautifully as it explores such heavy topics as grief, genocide, prejudice, sexism, domestic abuse, mental health, and many other topics you wouldn't expect from a "kids' show." The writing, animation, and music are all outstanding. If anyone here hasn't watched the show yet, I can't recommend it enough. My PFP may be of Gravity Falls, but Avatar is the nearest and dearest to my heart.

It would be cool if it was RPG not mobile game.

If it truly releases in November and it’s August and we’ve heard nothing about it, that gives a lot of reason to temper expectations. Toss Gamemill on top of it and really temper expectations. I hope to be wrong though. I’d love a good Avatar title.

The avatar like Link was asleep for 100 years and was away from games even longer!

Sweet! Grew up on Avatar and it's easily one of my favorite TV shows so definitely excited to see what this could be, hopefully it's real, and if it is, a decent game in it's own right.

Didn’t they announce an Avatar mobile game? Would not be surprised if they ported that to Switch

Please be the open world rpg! Please!

@CodyMKW Were they though? I found the first two to be really shallow and boring. The third one was the most fun, it's like a poor man's Zelda DS dungeon simulator. But at least it was creative.

Hopefully it’s actually a decent game that doesn’t just bank off of the ATLA name (if it’s actually real, that is).

I’ll take anything. Good to see there is still some life in the franchise.

Avatar franchise deserves good games, hoping whatever is coming is great.

@Snatcher Yes, please don't be some on rails crap. Can't believe people still want that in 2022. Can't wait for the new Pokemon. shots fired

Avatar The Last Airbender is a series that needs to be retired. Everything past the final season seems like an attempt to milk the IP. Korra was ok but the final season left me with a sour taste. I know it's had a minor resurgence since appearing on streaming services but I really don't see a good creative direction with the IP that is not a re-hash of what already has been done.

@Axecon Not before I get my rpg. I have been waiting years darn it!

Despite loving the franchise, my expectations would be very high for my idea of what a good Avatar game would contain, like intricate combo trees, bending style customization, element mixing, subbranches, etc.

What a waste it would be to run such a good IP into the ground with a derivative, cookie-cutter button-masher. How this publisher chooses anyone other than an A-list developer will already be a clear sign of greed.

Interesting news. I would personally love another Korra game. Maybe one that would include the likes of Mako, Bolin, Asami and even Varrick. And have the series villains and maybe have playable segments for them too.

Ideas aside, I'm most curious for this one.

Flameo!!! I mean, hell yeah!!! ATLA is one of my all-time favorite shows and a major favorite of my whole family, which we rewatch regularly.

Just today, I was ecstatic over finding a really nice Avatar sweatshirt in TJ Maxx.

Having said that, there's a very big, bitter part of me that's saying OF COURSE an Avatar game is coming to Switch now that I'm blind. But I know at least my kids will be happy to play it.

@Fizza Trust me, you need to watch this. I have yet to meet a perdon who didn't fall in love with Avatar after giving it a shot. IT IS THAT GOOD.

@Axecon Respectfully, I very much disagree. I do agree that Korra wasn't quite as good as the original but it was still a real good show all throughout, in my opinion, and I would love to see more of that universe. I am very much looking forward to the upcoming movies for it, for one. One of which is confirmed to focus on the original cast in their later years. That should be good.

@Yosher Is it movies then? I thought they were talking about a live-action series. I'm down either way if it's the original creators doing it. But honestly, what I'd like most is a third animated series. I loved both ATLA and LOK and strongly disagree with anyone who thinks they can't make another great series in the Avatar universe.

@JasmineDragon To my understanding, it's like this:

Netflix is working on a live action series. The original creators were originally involved, but they didn't really see eye to eye on the project so they left. Netflix is still going to continue making it regardless. Meanwhile, the official Avatar Studios that had been set up in recent years (I think last year) has been working on their own Avatar related projects, including some movies, which does include at least one for the original cast of characters from the first show.

I don't know further details off the top of my head, but I think they were also working on a Kyoshi movie and probably also a third animated series. And from what I heard, they seemed to have plans for the series that would cross the next 20 years or so.

Not all of this is confirmed, I think only that one movie is confirmed, but that's about the gist of what I've heard going around. And honestly, I'm pretty excited for it all!

@Yosher That sounds pretty cool. I'm bummed that the creators dropped out of the Netflix show because that almost always means Netflix are making some changes that aren't true to the spirit of the franchise, but I'll still check it out at least. And the other things all sound great. Kyoshi is a great character to work with and there's definitely more to explore with the original Aang Gang, as seen in the graphic novels. Thanks for the info!

Let's hope is better than the previous Avatar games... and also let's hope it looks and feels much better than Nickelodeon's All- Star Brawl, cause that game kinda looks and feels like play-doh... and not in the good way. 😕

@Fizza I highly recommend the show! It's one of my favorites. Definitely worth a watch!

Haven't been wowed by the Avatar games that I played. I hope whatever is coming reviews well.
