Paper Mario Tribute 'The Outbound Ghost' Gets Physical Release Date On Switch | Nintendo Life

Conradical Games' The Outbound Ghost has been haunting our thoughts ever since it was confirmed to be coming to Switch, and we might not have too long to wait. Merge Games has confirmed it's working on a physical release of the turn-based RPG, heavily inspired by Paper Mario, and we should be able to pick up a box of this ghostly adventure on 25th November.

Developer Conradical Games shared a launch trailer for the game yesterday — which is hovering over to PC via Steam, Epic, and GOG on 21st September. As for an eShop release, all we know so far is "later in 2022", but if that 25th November physical date is true, then we imagine we'll be seeing it before then.

Like its inspiration, and other brilliant paper-thin RPGs like Bug Fables: The Everlasting Sapling, The Outbound Ghost aims to charm with witty writing, colourful characters, and its interesting twist on the timing-based combat. Even in a world where ghosts embody regret, we think this is more than possible.

The Switch physical release will cost £29.99 / €34.99 / $34.99 — worth the price of admission just to have a cute little ghost on your gaming shelf, we think.

Oh, and there's also going to be a plushie of the game's main character, available separately. We can't wait to give him a little squeeze

Fingers crossed we get confirmation on a proper release date for The Outbound Ghost, as the physical release could be subject to change. Still, we're excited to hear impressions from people who play the game on PC from 21st September.

Are you looking forward to The Outbound Ghost? Say "boo!" in the comments if you are!

RPG lover first and Nintendo fan second, Alana is often found overthinking battle strategies, characters, and stories. Fortunately, she’s also easily pleased by anything Yoshi-related, creepy-but-cute Pokémon, and SEGA air pirates.

Wait, this is releasing this September on PC? Dang, completely lost track of it, haha. Might check it out.

I'm glad the physical edition isn't a limited release, definitely getting it physically on Switch for sure.

Wow, this game looks really good! Added to my wishlist already.

Sigh. I'm sure these games are great, but without the Mushroom Kingdom setting and characters, none of these Paper Mario clones have enticed me enough to buy them. It just isn't the same. I've heard great things about Bug Fables, but I dunno. This game is much more visually appealing than Bug Fables, but it's still lacking that sprinkle of Mario charm for me. I wish these developers all the success in the world, though, and I hope Nintendo will take notice of all these copies and realize there's still a market for this kind of game.

Hopefully the music in the video isn’t any indication of the music in the game. It just doesn’t fit. It sounded like symphony of the night but this game just doesn’t suite that.

@Not_Soos Correct. I loved Paper Mario and Thousand Year Door. I played Bug Fables and liked it, but it missed the Mario charm. I just never connected with the characters or the story. I am with you in hoping that Nintendo realizes that there is a huge market for Paper Mario games. Until then, PM clones is all we have. I'll probably wait for a review from Nintendo Life and then see what happens. The art style does seem more appealing than Bug Fables, so that's a plus.

Also, anyone else think that the characters look like the art style from the Freddi Fish games?

There've been a lot of attempts to evoke Paper Mario of late but don't think any of them have quite landed it with me. This one looks like it might have potential but I dunno.

I will get the PS5 version ! 😆

First ever video game kickstarter that I supported. I hope it delivers!

Boo! Surprised to hear this is getting a physical release. Well done to Conradical Games! Definitely considering picking this one up physically.

I will get a physical copy for Switch & PS5. I hope it comes to Best Buy!

@DTfeartheBEARD probably not sadly, since it's going to be a very limited physical release.

@Not_Soos hello! I made an account specifically so I could tell you that bug fables is SO worth it! The storyline is great, I love the characters you play as. The fighting is like the original 2 PM style, and there are a lot of badges to modify your style. AND I know this page is for Nintendo stuff shh but the pc and Xbox game pass have it on there if you have that. Regardless, I bought it on the switch for my sister once I finished it because I needed her to experience this lol. I promise you'll get the same feeling even without mario and the mushroom kingdom!
