After months of preparation and meticulous arrangement of festive lighting and radiant North Pole figures, the city's most joyous houses, streets and shops are now competing for votes in the 2021 Ipswich City Christmas Lighting Competition.

Ipswich City Mayor Teresa Harding (Teresa Harding) said that it is great to see so many families and businesses bring joy to the city with Christmas lights that they must not miss.

"Many Ipswich residents and business owners have spared no effort to create exciting light displays, turning the front yard and storefront into a joyous wonderland," said Mayor Harding.

“It’s always a wonderful experience to visit the various neighborhoods of our city and see the joy on people’s faces as they explore our suburbs and admire the exhibition.”

Andrew Fechner, chairman of the Community, Culture, Arts and Sports Committee, said that as part of the competition, more than 80 homes, businesses and streets lit up the city through festive displays.

“Christmas starts at home, where we gather with family and friends, and by decorating our houses, yards and fences, we help share the brilliance and spirit of this season with our communities,” Fechner said.

"In Ipswich, families will be able to enjoy some of the most creative and colorful Christmas light displays in southeast Queensland in their streets and suburbs."

Online voting will be open from December 2nd to 6th, and the complete list of voting addresses will be available on ChristmasInIpswich.com.au

Categories include best residential, best business/organization, best street, people's choice, best new entry, and best sustainable display. The winner will share cash and prizes worth more than $8,000.

For the first time participating in the competition, Sharvarne Packer said that her favorite part of the Flinders View display was the giant kangaroo, which was their biggest "investment."

"We want a'wow' factor. When we see it, we just need to have it. Ms. Parker said that whether you are in the city or inland, this is an ode to Australian Christmas.

"This is our first year. We started buying and planning in July. I asked my husband if he could buy a few lamps. This is where we are now!

"It's great to see young and old smiling, and you will never be too old to sit on Santa's lap."

Robyn Drury was a finalist in the Rookie of the Year category last year, and she said that her favorite part of their huge Pine Mountain exhibition was the waterfall flowing down the rocky stairs for the reindeer to drink.

Ms. Drewry said: "The most difficult part of setting up the monitor is to power it all and still be able to cook without tripping."

"We like the excitement on children's faces when they walk around the monitor and show their parents what they find."

Maree Bowater said that the "X factor" of their lights in Deebing Heights is the absolute brightness of their displays.

"Every time we drive around a curve and see the house light up, even our own children will still take a breath!" Ms. Bowater said.

"We found the children's handwritten notes in the mailbox, thanking us for creating a Christmas wonderland. There is no better thanks or appreciation than this. That's why we put so much energy into it."

Marina McDonald, the caretaker of Springs Lifestyle Village at Silkstone, said many residents are eager to lend a hand or provide advice when they see the lights come on.

"Every group in the village has their own Christmas party, and the air is really lively," Ms. MacDonald said.

"The annual Christmas lighting in the village has become a tradition for many years. This is what residents and locals are now looking forward to.

"Their grandchildren, in some cases great-grandchildren, look forward to seeing them when they visit, so it is important to maintain this tradition."

Kylie Retschlag, the regional manager of Ipswich, the public trustee, said that for the past 20 years, their team has prepared a window display every year to celebrate the holiday with the community.

"Every year we try to recycle and use environmentally friendly products, and team members often donate Christmas decorations to the exhibition," Ms. Retschlag said.

"This year, we used recycled wood panels to make Christmas tree frames to hang lights. With a little creativity and work, we tried to turn recycled products into beautiful things for the community to enjoy."

For more than two decades, Dianne Blair has been holding holiday exhibitions at Nova Court in Flinders View.

She said that when their iconic "star" appeared, the children nearby knew that Christmas was coming.

"Since their children were born, some families have come every year. Thanks to all my neighbors and their hard work, it is worth it, because we have a small but charming street to live in and a huge heart to share ," Ms. Blair said.

At Mahogany Street in Raceview, Kym Watkins stated that they need great community spirit, dedication and love for Christmas to provide their interactive display.

Ms. Watkins said: "We have Santa Claus, Grinch, Minnie and Mickey Mouse, Garfield and the Pink Panther mascots. They all come out to visit our guests and take pictures with them."

"This year we also have the builder Bob, explorer Dora, Abby Kardabi and Bruy mascots, as well as our walking snow area, bubbles and more!"

On Clarice Avenue in North Ipswich, Crimea Edwards-Stenstra said that Christmas can help everyone forget all the unpleasant events of the year.

"I have been doing this for 33 years, and everyone on the street thought I was crazy. Nowadays, almost all houses are working in one way or another," said Ms. Edwards-Stenstra .

"All this is in the spirit of Christmas, I like to decorate my home, so everyone likes it!"

The giant Christmas tree at d'Arcy Doyle Place that lights up at 6:45 pm on Friday, December 3rd is also a must-see.

The 2021 Ipswich City Christmas Lighting Competition is organized by the Ipswich City Council in collaboration with Slater and Gordon Lawyers, and received Energex, River 94.9, Queensland Nine News, NGU Real Estate Ipswich, Events Cinemas Springfield, Choices Flooring by Mallets, Ipswich, Harvey Norman Booval, Premier of Queensland and pocket resorts.
