Charge from the sun with Pulsar Plus

Wallbox’s Pulsar Plus is one of the best household electric car chargers on the market. It is used out of the box, easy to use, and has a variety of connection functions, so it is easy to control and operate.

Now, Wallbox provides users with access to intelligent power control and dynamic load balancing through its new Eco-Smart and Power Boost features.

Eco-Smart uses the company's new power meter (purchased from their website for $279, minus installation, of course) to measure the energy from the rooftop solar grid, and then gives you the option to charge the vehicle.

If you have enough excess energy, you can enter Full-Green mode, you guessed it, it can charge your vehicle completely from the sun. If you need a car on a cloudy day (or your solar grid is small), you can use the Eco mode to mix the energy of the grid with the remaining energy of the solar panels.

Both options can be controlled in the Wallbox app.

There is nothing worse than budgeting $1,000 or more for the installation of an EV charger (Pulsar Plus 48Amp itself costs $699), but the electrician tells you that your electrical panel cannot accommodate the charger and it will take thousands of dollars to install Larger electrical panel. The new Power Boost feature eliminates (or at least reduces) the need to do so.

When you install an EV charger and do not have a spare 50Amp circuit breaker, you must limit the maximum charging rate of the device through the Wallbox app. After installing a new power meter, you can dynamically balance the load charged by the vehicle, draw current from other circuits when other circuits are not in use, and reduce the consumption of the charger when more power is used.

For example, your air conditioner is a power-hungry beast. There is also a large circuit on its circuit breaker panel. When it is not turned on, it just sits there and is not in use. With Power Boost, your Pulsar Plus can maximize its charging capacity when the air conditioner is not running. As long as you turn on the air, the Wallbox app will restore Pulsar Plus to a lower charging rate.

What if you have solar panels? really. What if you have an older circuit breaker panel? really! Only by upgrading to a smart electrical panel like SPAN can the two new functions of Pulsar Plus be realized.

If your current circuit breaker panel does not have the ability to fully charge 48Amp EV, Power Boost is your solution. Compared to having to permanently reduce the capacity of the Pulsar Plus, your charging speed will be faster, and installing a power meter will be much cheaper than installing a new circuit breaker panel (smart or not).

Eco-Smart allows you to realize your dream of being completely green, charging your car without relying on any fossil fuels. This is a great way to obtain additional capacity for the personal solar grid, not just to sell the additional energy back to the power company at cost.

The hardware to enable these new features for your Wallbox Pulsar Plus costs $279, which is very reasonable. It can also be included as part of the Pulsar Plus installation, thereby minimizing additional installation costs.

Wallbox is using their EV chargers to do something special, opening up home charging to everyone, not just those who can afford expensive upgrades. It is hoped that this will further accelerate the adoption of level 2 charging in residential buildings and pave the way for a gas-free future.
